The following obituary was found in the scrapbook of Carrie Wheelock (daughter of Annette Goldsbury Wheelock).

July 28, 1927 - Barre's Oldest Resident Dead

Mrs. Annette Wheelock, great grand-daughter of city's first settler, was in 97th year, 70th in same house. She was keenly interested in affairs of her day, up to her death.

Mrs Annette Goldsbury Wheelock, Barre's oldest native resident, oldest resident as well, direct descendent of Barre's first settler in 1788, who was John Goldsbury, passed away just as the new day was dawning this morning at the Wheelock family residence at 145 North Main St., being in her 97th year.

According to the Grafton vital records, Joseph and Sally were both from Worcester at the time of their marriage. Several children were born to the couple in Worcester, after which they moved to Shaftsbury, Vt. More children may have been born in Shaftsbury that are not recorded here.

Joseph probably fought in the Revolutionary War, enlisted in 1781 at the age of 16, a private in Captain John Cutler's Company, Colonel Luke Drury's Regiment. He was engaged for the town of Worcester.
