The transcription of Mercy's headstone in the Andover Road Cemetery, in Hebron, CT, was kindly supplied by Rick Gagne:
06248-1-10/ Mercy Daugh/ ter of ye Rev./ Eleazer whee/ lock of Lebanon/ was born Decer./ ye 21th. & Died Febr./ ye 28th. AD 1738:
Read literally, this headstone implies that Mercy Wheelock was born 21 Dec 1737. However, this conflicts with the 14 Aug 1737 birth date of her brother, Eleazar Wheelock, which is substantiated by the Lebanon Vital Records, and his headstone. A more likely interpretation is that the headstone uses old style dates, and that her birth date was 21 Dec 1738, and she died 28 Feb 1738/39. This fits well within the pattern of births for her mother, Sarah (Davenport) Wheelock.
