Alexander Wheelock fought in the Revolutionary War. He was a Private (from Mendon) in Captain Gershom Nelson's Company, which marched on the Lexington Alarm 19 Apr 1775. He later served in Samuel Warrin's Company, and in Captain Peter Proctor's Company of men from Warwick, MA. He marched to reinforce the Northern Army at Fort Edward or Fort Anne, leaving 10 July 1777 and returning 12 Aug 1777. [1]
"Wheelock Genealogy", by Carlyle Wheelock and Winifred Gonseth, unpublished manuscript, 1955, states that he was "said to have been a Universalist, and a farmer in North Orange, MA". He no doubt came from Milford, MA to Warwick with his brother, Eleazer, circa 1775. [3] He lived in the part of Warwick which later became Orange in 1810.
Alexander Wheelock is buried in thePerry Cemetery, North Orange, MA, with his wife, some children, and grandchildren. [2] His heastone reports that he was aged 75 at death. His wifes headstone refers to him as "Captain Alexander Wheelock".
