According to the Lancaster Vital Records, Elijah's tombstone bears the following inscription: "For though his soul know soars with wings on high, yet here his body must forgotten lie; and youer commanded, while he here dose sleep, the silent watches of each hour to keep."

The Lancaster Vital Records report the death of Elijah Wheelock, 23 July 1775. He was "mortally wounded by a fall from a loaded cart." This is probably the same Elijah.
