Will of Gershom Wheelock

In the name of God Amen, this eighteenth day of June A.D. one thousand seven hundred and ninety-three I Gershom Wheelock of Shrewsbury in the County of Worcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, being of perfect mind and memory praised be God; and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed to all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say prinicipally and first of all. I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it, and my body I recommend to be buried in Christian Decent burial, according to the direction of my executor, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form, viz --

First of all my will is that my just debts and funeral charges be paid by my executor.

I give and bequeath to Susanna my beloved wife for her right of Dower in my estate, annually one hundred weight of pork, sixty weight of beef, five bushels of Indian corn, four bushels of rye, one bushel of wheat, half a bushel of malt, sixty pounds of cheese, fifteen pounds of butter, three barrels of cider, two gallons of rum, fourteen pounds of sugar, onepound of tea, three pounds of coffee, and five dollars in cash -- also sauce and apples as much as she needeth for her use -- also the East Square room in the house, and chamber and cellar, sufficient for her use, also a fire kept constantly for her as she may need - likewise all my household furniture to be at her own disposal - also nursing and doctoring in sickness.

Item. I give to my son Asa Wheelock three pounds and one half of my wearing apparel, which with what he has before had is his full share of my estate.

Item. I give to my son Gershom Wheelock all my seal and personal estates together with my share in the Social library in Shrewsbury, on condition of his fulfilling the Dower to my wife and discharging the legacies of this my last Will and Testament, for his share and portion in my estate.

Item. I give to my daughter Susanna Wheelock forty-five pounds with the privilege of my house for her home so long as she shall remain in single life, which is her full share of my estate.

Item. I give to my daughter Abigail Harris forty pounds including what she has before had which I have charged against her, which is her full share of my estate.

Item. I give to my daughter Elizabeth Rice forty pounds including what she has before had which I have charged against her, which is her full share of my estate.

Item. I give to my daughter Martha Wheelock forty pounds with the privilege of my house for her home so long as she shall remain in single life which is her full share of my estate.

It is my will that my son Gershom Wheelock shall not be held to pay any of the legacies of this my Last Will and Testament till three years after my decease. Furthermore I constitute make and ordain my faithful and ??? son Gershom Wheelock sole executor of this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disavow revoke and disannull every other Will by me any ways before named - satisfying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
