Will of Silas Wheelock
(1717/18 - 1793)
(Allowed May 28, 1793)
In the name of God, Amen, I, Silas Wheelock of Mendon, in the County of Worcester, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Esqr., being advanced in life but of a sound mind and Memory thanks be given to God therefore, but calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed unto man once to die. Do make and ordain this as my last will and testament: That it to say principally and first if all I give and bequeth my soul into the hands of God who gave it: Hoping through the merritts Death and Passion of my saviour Jesus Christ I shall receive a full and free pardon of all my Sins and Enherit Etermal life; and my body I commit to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like and Decent manner at the discression of my Executor hereinafter named; nothing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God; and as Touching and wourldly estate as it has pleased God to bless me with in this life and wourld; I give bequeth and dispose of in the following manner and form (viz) first I will that all my just Debts and Funeral Charges be paid and discharged out of my Estate by my Executor hearing names in convenient time after my Decease.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my beloved Wife, Hannah Wheelock, the sole use and Improvement of all my Building I may die seized and Possessed of and the use of one full half of all my lands I may died seized and Possessed of for and during her natural life and also all and singular my indor movables (my wearing aparel excepted) and also two cows out of my stock of cows and four sheep out of my stock of sheep and one swine to her sole use and Disopossal forever.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Daugther Perley Thayer, Wife of Amassa Thayer, Ten shillings to be paid out of my personal estate which with what I have already given her is in full for her portion out of my Estate.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Daughter Rhoda Nelson, Wife of Nehemiah Nelson, Thirteen pounds to be paid out of my estate as hereinafter Discribed which with what I have already given her is in full for her portion out of my Estate.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandson Royal Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter discribed also my best suit of cloths (to wit) my Blue coat, red Jacket and Britches, best stockings and shoes.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandson Silas Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter discribed also my Walking Cane marked S. W.
Item - I give and bequeth unto Grandson Jerry Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter directed.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandaughter Eunice Chapin one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter directed.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandaughter Hannah Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter Directed.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandaughter Rachel Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter directed.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandaughter Polly Wheelock Nine pounds to be paid as hereinafter directed provided she will live with me and my wife during our Natural lives or until she shall arrive at the age of Eighteen years or marriage.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandaughter Nancy Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter directed.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandson Joseph Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as hereinafter directed also my second best suit of Clothes.
Item - I give and bequeth unto my Grandaughter Phebe Wheelock one pound ten shillings to be paid as herinafter directed and in case either of the above said Grand-Children shall die before if sons to the age of twenty one years or if daughters to the age of eighteen years then there respective Brothers & Sisters to have their part eaqually divided between them; and the legacies above given them are to be paid to those that are of age in convenient time after my Decease; and to those that are not of age when they shall arrive to lawfull age to receive them the above legacies being in full for their Fathers Portion out of my Estate and further I order and Direct that my Executor hereinafter named together with the assistance of my son Calvin Wheelock and my trusty Friend Andrew Peters of Mendon Esq. sell and dispose of so much of my real estate as will fetch a sum Eaquel to pay all the aforesaid Legacies or sums I have given or bequeathed unto my said Daughters and Grand-Children in such way and manner as will least hurt the further division of my real estate that my sons Seth and Calvin purchase the same Eaqualy between them; if they think best.
Item - I give and bequeath unto my four sons, namely Seth Wheelock, Caleb Wheelock, Calvin Wheelock, and Luther Wheelock, and their Heirs and assigns forever all my Real Estate I shall died seized and possessed of not heretofore ordered to be disposed of excepting all my part of the Wood lot lying a little southwest of Asa Fletcher and now in Eaquel part with my son Seth Wheelock which piece of Wood land I give and bequeath unto my son Calvin and to his heirs and assigns forever to be eaqually divided between them, and also the remainder of my personal Estate not heretofore given away I give to my sons abovesaid to be eaqully divided between them excepting the remainder of my wearing apparel which I give to my son Caleb and my cast irons which I give to my son Seth.
And I hereby make ordain and appoint my beloved son Seth Wheelock of Mendon Gentlemen my only and sole executor of this my last will and Testament forever hereafter revoking annuling and disolowing all and every other former Will Testament Legacies and bequeaths by me in any wise named willed or bequeathed forever hereafter ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last Will and Testament.
In testamony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of May in the year of Our Lord Seventeen Hundred and Ninety one.
