Research Notes:

Genealogies on the internet identify his parents as Salem Goodeough and Lydia Bradish, both of whom lived in Calais. However, Alfred was not living with Salem and Lydia in 1850. Also, Alfred's Oregon death certificate identifies his father as Martin Goodnough. This could be a mistake, as Salem and Lydia also had a son named Martin, ostensibly Alfred's brother.

A death notice for Salem Goodenough published 27 Jan 1886 edition of Vermont Watchman (Montpelier, Vermont) states that Salem Goodenough had three sons living in Oregon.1

A bio of Ira Goodenough in The Morning Oregonian, published 4 Jan 1900, states that Ira was born in Calais, son of Salem, brother of Alfred of Portland, Oregon.2

In 1880, Alfred Goodnough, age 51, born Vermont, was living in East Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, with his wife, Emma Goodnough, 34, born Maine. His son, Frederick L. Goodnough, age 11, born Vermont, was also in the household.

In 1900, Alfred, born Oct 1828 in Vermont, was married to Emily, born Jan 1859 in Maine, both having been married for 18 years.
