Genealogies on the internet identify his parents as Salem Goodeough and Lydia Bradish, both of whom lived in Calais. However, Alfred was not living with Salem and Lydia in 1850. Also, Alfred's Oregon death certificate identifies his father as Martin Goodnough. This could be a mistake, as Salem and Lydia also had a son named Martin, ostensibly Alfred's brother.
A death notice for Salem Goodenough published 27 Jan 1886 edition of Vermont Watchman (Montpelier, Vermont) states that Salem Goodenough had three sons living in Oregon.
