An Alpheus Wheelock is enumerated in the 1790 Census living in Pitts Town, Albany Co, NY; in Western, Oneida Co, NY in 1800, 2-11- 11-1-; in Lee, Oneida Co, NY in 1820, ---1-1 --1-1-2; in Rome, Oneida Co, NY (near Benjamin G. Wheelock, and Elon A. Wheelock) in 1830, --------1------------1. He appears in no further census records. The 1830 Census places his birth between 1760 and 1770.
The following is found in "Our County and It's People, A Descriptive Work on Oneida County, New York", edited by Daniel E. Wager, The Boston History Company, 1896, transcribed by Jane Stevens-Hodge in 2002, Chapter 37, Town of Lee:
"In 1792, Colonel Alpheus Wheelock and Rachel, his wife, a famous female physician, settled at Elmer Hill, and about the same time, Edward Salisbury and his seven sons, Nicholas, Edward S., Enon, Alexander, Lodowick, De Estaing, and Smith settled near Delta. ... The Sheldons, Smith, Wheelocks and Salisburys emigrated from the state of Rhode Island. ... Colonel Wheelock opened the first tavern west of Fort Stanwix at this Hill."
The Nicholas Salisbury mentioned above is the husband of Rowena Wheelock, Alpheus' sister.
Elon A. Wheelock was a private in the 189th Regiment, NY Infantry during the Civil War. He is buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Rochester, NY; died 28 Aug 1860, age 50. Given his location in Rome, he may be the son of Alpheus.
A Marcus A. Wheelock (1796 - 1817) is buried in Adams Rural Cemetery, Adams, Jefferson Co, NY. He may also be a son of Alpheus and Rachel.
A Dr. Marcus A. Wheelock, born 1823 in NY, died 1907 in Utah, is the son of E. Wheelock (per Utah Death Record). He may be the son of Elon.
A Rowena Wheelock married William Henry H. Elias resided in Uxbridge, MA. His ancestry is not known. The Uxbridge Vital Records contain Church baptism records for Abba Wheelock, and Elizabeth Wheelock, daughters of Abba and Elias Wheelock. Both were baptised 18 Sep 1831. These may be Abby Ann, and Lucretia Elizabeth, daughters of Elias Wheelock and Sarah Wood.
The death record for Elias Wheelock identifies his parents as Elias and Abagail (MA 276:444).
