Research Notes for Ray H. Miller:

In 1950, Ray H. Miller was living in Napa, California, age 54, born Illinois, married to Corinne Miller, age 54, born Kansas.

In 1960, Raymond H. and Corinne E. Miller were living together in Napa, per 1960 Napa directory; as they were in 1965, and 1967, listed as Ray H. and E. Corinne Miller. By 1968 the were living separately, as they were in 1970 and 1972. The 1973 Napa directory is not available online at Ancestry.com, but in 1974 Corinne Miller was still living in Napa; Ray H. Miller was no longer listed there.¹

Ray Hunt Miller died 28 Mar 1973 in McLeansboro, Illinois. Per obituary, he was born 7 Aug 1895 in Hamilton County, Illinois, the son of Stan and Laura (Hunt) Miller. The obit identified his wife, Grace Denny, who preceded him in death (she died in 1927 per profile on FamilySearch.org). Corinne was not mentioned. The obituary states that he was a member of the Baptist Church of Napa, California.²

No original record was found tying Corinne to the Ray Hunt Miller in the obituary, but his birth and death dates line up exactly with those given by Corinne's grand-daughter (Donna Rae Selig), and he had lived in Napa, so the two are presumed to be the same. Possibly they divorced, explaining their separate living arrangements after 1968, and the lack of mention in Ray H. Miller's obit.

Note that his headstone gives birth date one year earlier than his obit. His WW I draft registration card agrees with the headstone - he was born 7 Aug 1894, near McLeanboro, Illinois.³

Ray's obit identifies his parents as Stan and Laura (Hunt) Miller, but the obituary of Rhoda (Oglesby) Miller identifies Ray as her son, and Sam Miller as her husband.⁴ This is consistent with the 1910 census, which shows Ray Miller, 14, born Illinois, son of Sam and Rhoda Miller, living in Twigg, Hamilton County, Illinois, with two siblings mentioned in his obit - John, and Dwight.
