He died intestate of typhoid fever. Per death record, he was the son of James and Dolly McLoud, born in Plainfield, age 54 yrs, 7 mos, 1 day.

He was a Woodbury town officer, holding several different positions.¹

He was a Colonel in the sixth brigade, Vermont Millitia, 18th regiment.²

Recta McLoud and Enoch C. McLoud were appointed administrators of his estate, 19 Apr 1858. The estate was considerable, as were the claims against it. Much of the land was sold to settle the claims. The proceeds of the estate after debts were distributed (recorded 15 Aug 1865) to the heirs, identified as William Wallace McLoud, of Charleston, MA, Martha Jane Bolton, wife of Pliny Bolton of Peacham, VT, Helen M. McLoud, of South Reading, MA, and Royal S. McLoud of Woodbury, VT. Two deceased heirs were named: Delorma B. McLoud and Edward T. McLoud.³

Research Notes:

Ira McLoud obviously had a close association with Enoch C. Mcloud, who was co-administrator of his estate, and a business partner during his lifetime. Enoch C. McLoud was born (calculated) 31 Jun 1802, in Plainville, according to his Calais, Vermont, death record, which lists his parents as James McLoud and (--?--) Cate.⁴

Ira's uncle, Royal Tyler Wheelock, married another member of the McLoud family, Nancy C. McLoud, born 29 Nov 1808, also in Plainfield. She, according to The Wheelock Family of Calais, was the daughter of James Madison McLoud and Nancy Cate.

Likely all three - Enoch, Ira, and Nancy - were siblings, children of James McLoud and Nancy Cate. Why Ira's death record identifies his mother as "Dolly" is unclear, but his older brother and younger sister both identified their mother's last name as Cate.

John Teague is the son of Moses Teague. Moses and his father Samuel Teague moved from South Carolina to southwest Ohio between 1800 and 1805.

John Teague's death certificate gives date of death as 10 May 1898, in disagreement with the obituary (which gives 4 May 1898). Since other Miami Co records give 9 May 1898 as the date the estate entered probate, it is assumed the 4 May 1898 date is more accurate.

The 1861 Lowell, MA directory shows an Olive A. Wheelock living in a boardinghouse.¹ Note also the presence of Abby B. Wheelock, d. Joseph and Betsey, in Lowell in 1846.

Joseph's death record indicates age 59y, 9m ,1d when he died on 31 Aug 1854, implying a birth date of 30 Nov 1791.
