In 1850, Ann Caudill (transcribed as Candhill) was, 9 years old, living in Yuba City, Sutter County, California, with her parents James and Nancy Caudill, and her numerous siblings.

In 1880 Ann E. Wheelock was living in Pajaro, Santa Cruz County, California, age 36, born in Iowa, with her husband, Darius, and daughter, Laura E. Wheelock, 7, and sons Alber W. Wheelock, 5, and Stillman W. Wheelock, 2, all three children born in California. Also in the household was Ann's mother, Nancy G. Caudill (transcribed as Candill), age 74, born in Kentucky.

Brooks McLoud was mustered into service as a private in Company H, 2nd Regiment Vermont infantry, on 20 Aug 1861. He was wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg, 13 dec 1862, and was killed in the Battle of the Wilderness, Virginia, on 5 May 1864, shortly before completing his three year term of service.¹
