The greater part of Darius Wheelock's life was spent in California where he went when gold was first discovered there.1

In 1852 he was living in Siskiyou County, California, occupation miner.2

On 14 Oct 1855 he enlisted in the Puget Sound Mounted Volunteers, Olympia, Washington, rank 3rd Corporal, to fight the Indians east of the Cascade Mountains.3

He is probably the D. T. Wheelock that signed a letter "to the Bretheren of the Atlantic States" dated Dec 1859 describing developments leading to the orgaization of the "Brethren of the Pacific Slope" church on the Pajaro River near Monterey, California. Amongst the other signatories were T. Q. Caudill and T. J. Caudill.4

On 8 July 1860 he married Ann E. Caudill in Monterey County, California.5

On 10 Jan 1865, a few months after his mother died, Darius signed an affidavit declaring that he had received his full inheritance from his father's estate. In the affidavit he declared himself a resident of San Joaquin County, California.6

In 1867 he was a farmer, and a resident of Castoria, San Joaquin County, when he registered to vote there.7 He appeared on the Castoria voting registers through 1877. In 1876, he also appeared on the Lompoc, Santa Barbara County voting register, suggesting he may have lived there briefly.

In 1877 he purchased land in Pajaro township (near Watsonville), and was a resident there by 28 Feb 1878, when he placed a notice in the newspaper of a strayed heffer that wandered onto his property.8

In 1880 he was a farmer in Watsonville, Santa Cruz County, California, with his wife, Ann, and children Albert W., Laura E. and Stilman W., all born in California except Ann, who was born in Iowa.

Grace Mildred Wheelock

Birth: 2 Nov 1901, Alva, Woods Co, OK

Death: 1 Mar 1988, Fairview, Major Co, OK

Burial: Alva Municipal Cemetery, Alva, Woods Co, OK

Father: Albert Henry Wheelock
Mother: Caroline Jane Ewing

Spouse: Archibald Washington McAllister
Marriage: 27 Sep 1926, Alva, Woods Co, OK

  1. Robert Alan McAllister, born 12 Oct 1931, Alva, Woods Co, OK

Notes:

Grace was born northwest of Alva and attended the Fairview Grade Schools, graduated from Hardtner High School and attended the Northwestern Normal College where she received her teaching certificate. She received her bachelors from Northwestern and her masters from Stanford University. Grace and Archibald had one child, Robert Alan McAllister.1

In 1930 Grace and Archie were living in Fairview, Major County, Oklahoma. In 1940, Grace, age 38, widow, was lodging with W. L. Brown in Oklahoma City. Her son, Robert Alan McAllister was also in the household, age 8. In 1950 Grace was back in Fairview, occupation secretary and teacher.

Her obit lists a surviving brother, Albert Wheelock of Medicine Lodge; sisters Edna Sutton of Escondido, California, Vera Tatro of Alva, Beulah McCrady of Midwest City, and Ruth Caldwell of Redondo Beach, California; and three grandchildren.2

A letter from Grace's brother, Albert Wheelock, states that Grace was in a nursing home in Fairview, Oklahoma in 1980. Grace was also identified in the letter as the "family genealogist". Persis (Park) Ivett makes occasional reference to "Grace MacAllister" in her genealogical notes, so the two must have corresponded. Albert's letter states that Grace's genealogical records were lost.
