Research Notes for Benjamin:

Benjamin caused quite a stir when in 1947, at the age of 21, he walked into a Detroit police station and confessed to the murder of his father, Selden F. Wheelock. At the time the police doubted the young man's story, and no follow up articles were found to indicate that he was ever charged.¹

He is probably the Ben Wheelock living in 1950 in a Rehabilitation Center in New York City.

Mrs. Lee Brunskowski was identified as a survivor in the 22 July 1974 death notice of her brother Elmer.¹

Per death notice, Leona (Wheelock) Brunkowski was survived by her children: Deanne Daleo, Geri and Frances.²

Research Notes for Leona:

She is probably the Leona Bunskowski [sic, Brunskowski] in the 1950 census, 23, born Michigan, living on Young Street in Detroit, married to Frank Bunskowski, 31, born Colorado, no children in the household.

Leona (Wheelock) Brunskowski died 21 March 1984 in Detroit. Per death notice, she was the mother of Deanne Daleo, Geri and Frances.² The Michigan death index calls her Leona G. Brunskowski, born 29 Nov 1926, died 21 May 1984 in Detroit.³

There is a partial St. Joseph, Indiana marriage record for Leona Wheelock, resident of Detroit, daughter of Seldon Frank Wheelock and Ora C Storer, born 29 Nov 1926 in Detroit. The date of marriage and the spouse is not specified. Per record, she had been married once before.⁴

Frank Joseph Brunskowski, was born 12 May 1918 in Colorado. When he registered for the World War II draft on 24 Oct 1945 in Detroit, he listed his closest relative as his sister, Mrs. Helen Purrcelli.⁵

Frank Brunskowski appears in the 29 Nov 1953 edition of the Detroit Free Press, his address is listed as 14860 Young St.⁶ His address matches that of Diane Daleo, born 19 Oct 1953, probably the daughter mentioned in Leona's death notice. Per public records, her address was 14860 Young St, Detroit.⁷ Frances L. Brunskowski, born Mar 1951, also lived at that same address.⁸
