Avis Handy WHEELOCK

  Genealogy of Spencer Merrill who who married Desire Slocum Greene 6 Jan 1750 in Rhode Island. This handwritten record was kindly supplied by Thomas Stuhler, Jan 2007. One page of these records documents in detail the family of Phebe Merrill and Daniel Wheelock. The original source of these records is unkown, but the dates and information agree with extant vital and cemetery records.

Arnold's Vital Records of Rhode Island list Avis Handy Wheelock as "of Daniel". She is buried in the same cemetery as Daniel and Phebe. "Wheelock Genealogy", CCW and WTG, gives birth date as 13 May 1821.

INDEX

In 1856, Everett E. Wheelock came to Moline and became a teamster for his uncle Stillman. On 10 June 1861 he enlisted for service in the Civil War, becoming a private in Company H. Nineteenth Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and served in the Western Army for three years. He was promoted to the rank of orderly sergeant. After he came back to Moline he continued with his uncle with whom he worked for the rest of his life. He married Mary Nye, who died without issue 12 May 1901.
