Theresa Anne Crowell Bickhart writes of her brother as follows:
"According to my Mother, Grandma Dime had promised to give Mom $500.00 if she had a son & would give him the middle name of Edmond. In those days you didn't know in advance what sex your child would be. So Mother had a boy and in the hospital filled out the papers for naming James Edmund Crowell. Dime was furious Edmond had been misspelled, with a "u". Grandma Dime lived with us & much to Mother's disbelief, I took Grandma's side. Grandma gave my Mother $50.00 for the name. Grandma wanted to honor her late husband with the name, she also felt that doing so his name would go on, as they never could have children. Hard feelings always remained."

The marriage certificate and death certificate give conflicting information about the parents of Frances Gertrude (----) Wheelock. The marriage certificate identifies her parents as William Gately and Mary Lennan; the death certificate gives Patrick McGrath and Margaret Conlon, both born in Ireland. She is buried next to Patrick McGrath (d. 21 Nov 1869, age 46 years, from Roscommon Ireland), Mary Mcgrath (d. 16 May 1906, age 75 years), Patrick Conlon and Bridget Conlon, wife of Patrick, per Holyhood Cemetery Association, though she has no headstone. No resolution for this conflict has been discovered. A Gertrude McGrath, age 1, is found in the 1880 Census, daughter of Patrick McGrath and Mary, living in Boston, MA. Of interest is the fact that Mary Lennon (Gannon?) was a servant in a neighboring residence.
Frances Gertrude Wheelock died of tuberculosis.
