According to the tombstone, Josiah died of "dropsey". The Mendon Vital Records state the marriage date of Josiah and Experience as "6 Jan 1748", not using the old style notation. The Milford Vital Records give the marriage date as 6 Jan 1747/48.

Josiah served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Captain William Jennison's Company of Minute-men which marched on the Lexington Alarm, of 19 April 1775. He later served in Ichabod Thayer's Company.

At least two of Josiah's children, Eleazar and Alexander, removed to Warwick, MA, circa 1775.
