According to "History of Grafton", Daniel died from injuries received while moving a building. His headstone is incribed with "If you seek his monument, look around you." According to "Wheelock Genealogy", by C. C. Wheelock and Winifred (Thomson) Gonseth, Daniel was a "stone-cutter, building mover and general contractor."

"editor, was born in St. Paul, Minn., Dec. 7, 1870, son of Joseph Albert and Catherine (French) Wheelock. He was educated in private schools and at the high school in St. Paul: at St6. Paul's School, Concord, NH, and at Yale University, where he was graduated in 1893. Immediately after graduation he joined the staff at the St. Paul "Pioneer Press" as a reporter, continuing until June, 1896, when he became the secretary of Mayor F. B. Doran. In February, 1987, he again joined the "Pioneer Press," but as associate editor, and this position he still (1905) holds. Mr. Wheelock was married in St. Paul, MN, Oct. 13, 1900 to Martha, daughter of Hon. James Gilfillan, former chief of justice of the supreme court of the state, and has a son, Webster."
