Theodore Wheelock

Birth: 4 May 1844, Hamburg, Erie Co, NY

Death: 31 Dec 1898, Fredonia, Chautauqua Co, NY

Burial: Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredonia, Chautauqua Co, NY

Father: John Homer Wheelock
Mother: Sarah Lucina Houghton

Spouse: Clarabelle Miller
Marriage: 1 May 1879, Fredonia, NY

  1. William Homer Wheelock, born 15 Oct 1886, Pomfret, Chautauqua Co, NY

Notes:

On 30 Aug 1862, in Dayton, New York, at the age of 18, Theodore enlisted for service in Company K of the 154th Regiment New York Volunteers. His service in the Civil War extended for three years during which time he was wounded and taken prisoner for twelve days at Chancellorsville, Virginia. After recovering from his wounds, he was returned to service in Aug 1863. He, along with the entire 154th Regiment, was part of Sherman's army that embarked on the legendary March to the Sea.1 At the conclusion of Sherman's march, the 154th worked it's way north to Bladenburg, Maryland, where on 11 June 1865, Theodore Wheelock and the rest of the 154th was mustered out of service.1,2

Per obit notice his wife and son found him dead in the woods near his home on the evening of December 31st; cause of death presumed to be heart trouble. Besides his wife and son, he left a brother, Z. E. Wheelock of Fredonia; three sisters, Miss Delia Wheelock of Buffalo, and Miss Lelia and Miss Augusta Wheelock, both of Fredonia.3
