Theodore enlisted in the Civil War, where he served three years, being wounded in Chancellorsville. He was in Sherman's march to the sea. He was mustered out June 11, 1865 in Bladensburg, Maryland. He served in company K, 154th N.Y. Volunteers. He was still a farmer in 1892.
The death notice in the Fredonia paper reads as follows: "Wheelock, Theodore, died 31 Dec 1898. Who lived on Van Buren Rd. about 1.5 mile from Fredonia, found dead in a piece of woods near his home...brother of Z. Elmer Wheelock of Fredonia, was about 55 yr. He served as private in Co. K, 154th regiment of the New York Volunteers, 30 Aug 1862 to June 1865. Wounded in left temple at the Battle of Chancelorsville 3 May 1863...Holt Post GAR. Leaves wife and 1 son."
