Notes:

He married his cousin, Mary Croissant. In 1900, Alfred, Mary, and their one year old son, Clifford, were living in the household of Mary's parents, Charles W. and Christina Croisant, in Summit, Cloud Co, Kansas. By 1920 they were living in Hilt, Siskiyou County, California, and by 1930 the were living in Eagle Point, Jackson Co, Oregon.

He died in Medford, Oregon in 1936. His obituary, published in the 17 July 1936 edition of the Medford Mail Tribune identified his children as Mrs. Gladys Jenkins of Upland, California, Mrs. Velma Grove, and Clifford Wheelock, both of Medford.²

Research Notes:

Regarding Alfred's birth place: a family record places his birth in Alexandria, Jefferson County, New York, which is near Le Ray.¹ In 1865, the family was living in Le Ray, per New York state census, and later (before the 1870 census was taken) moved back to Stockton. Based on these records, the Alexandria birth place is plausible. However, his marriage record gives his birth place as Stockton, Illinois, which is where, no doubt, he spent most of his youth. The 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 federal census records state that he was born in Illinois. An obituary specifically says he was born in Stockton, Jo Daviess County, Illinois;² and does his 1936 Oregon death certificate also says Stockton (with his son Clifford as informant).
