In 1850 she was living in Ray, Macomb Co, Michigan, age 33, born New York, with her husband Royal Bacon, age 36, clothier, her sons Augustus, 8, Elliot, 7, Lewis, 5, her daughter Roxanna, age 4 months, and Denis Bacon, age 20, farmer.

In 1860 she was in Macomb, Macomb Co, Michigan, age 43, born New York, with Royal Bacon and family.

In 1870, she was in Shelby, Macomb Co, Michigan, age 53, born New York, with her husband Royal, and son John C. The head of household was Dennis Bacon, age 39, farmer, living with his wife and children.

In 1880 she was again in Shelby, age 63, born New York, parents birth places illegible. Also in the household was her husband, Royal, age 64, her daughters, Rosanne Merrill, age 29, Olive Bacon, age 23, school teacher, and her son John Bacon, age 23, laborer. Also in the household - her grandson, Ward Merrill.

In 1900 she was living in Shelby Township, with her daughter, Olive Haines, and her daughter's husband Fremont C. Haines. Sarah's birth was listed as May 1817, her father was born in Maine, her mother in Massachusetts.

Research Notes:

According to the Wheelock genealogy posted on the Huntertown, Allen Co, Indiana, Historical Society, Sarah Poson Wheelock was the daughter of Phineas Wheelock and Elizabeth Hennesey, of Plattsburgh, Clinton Co, New York, and Huntertown, Allen Co, Indiana - original sources not identified.[1] This is consistent with the census records, which state that she was born in New York, where her parents were known to be living at the time of her birth.

It is also consistent with the 1820 census, which shows Phineas Wheelock living in Plattsburgh, Clinton Co, New York, with three young girls under 10 (Louisa, Sarah, and Catherine). Sarah and her presumed sister, Catherine, may have gone to Ohio together, because both were married within a few years of each other in Medina County, Ohio.

The Memorial Record of the Northern Peninsula of Michigan agrees with the genealogy at the Huntertown Historical Society. In a biography of Augustus E. Bacon, M.D. (son of Sarah and Royal), it states that he was a cousin of Dr. Kent K. Wheelock of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a grandson of Phineas.[2]

However, her death certificate lists her parents as John Wheelock and Sarah Perdy. The informant was Sarah's son in law, F. C. Haines, who is presumed to be mistaken. The death certificate might be more credible if another record of John Wheelock and Sarah Perdy could be found, but so far (Feb 2022) no other original record supporting their existence has surfaced.
