He served in the Revolutionary War and later drew a pension for his service.

After the war he removed from Worcester, Massachusetts to Croydon, New Hampshire with his brother Jonas and Jonathan. They settled on the banks of the Sugar River, near the Newport line.¹

Research Notes:

The Worcester, Massachusetts vital records to 1850 contain two birth records for Benjamin Cutting, son of Francis and Thankful - 26 Aug 1760, and 19 Aug 1766. This is possibly a transcription error. His birth date was likely 19 Aug 1760, and baptism was 29 Aug 1760. These dates would be consistent with his headstone, and his date of marriage to Anna Bemis.

In his Sullivan County, New Hampshire will, dated 1 April 1846, proved 16 Feb 1848, he identified himself as Benjamin Cutting of Croydon, and left bequests to "my son Hiram Cutting, to my daughters Nancy wife of Obed Lamberton, Lucy wife of Nathaniel Lamberton, Eunice Spencer, widow, & Lydia wife of Daniel Young." He also left bequests to "Benjamin Cutting formerly my son deceased," and "to the heirs of ______ Cutting my son deceased. To the heirs of Clark Cutting my son deceased & to the heirs of my daughter Dinah Lamberton decased." Finally, he left the "rest and residue of" his estate to his son Francis Cutting, whom he appointed executor. (Sullivan County, Wills, J/439, K/361.)

She appears in the 1830 and 1840 census records, head of household in Marshfield. She was age 40 to 49 in 1830, age 60 to 69 in 1840. She is not in the 1850 census. No death record has yet been found, and no record of her burial.

Daniel Young, age 60, farmer, born in New Hamsphire is enumerated in the 1850 census living in Marshfield, Washington Co, Vermont, with Lydia, age 54, born New Hampshire, Charles, age 21, and Melissa, age 10, both born in Vermont.

In 1860 they were again living in Marshfield, Daniel age 70, Lydia, age 65, both born New Hampshire.

And in 1870 they were living in Marshfield, Daniel, age 81, Lydia, age 74.

Neither are found in the 1880 census.

The 1911 Vermont death record of their son, Charles, identifies his parents as Daniel Young and Lydia Cutting, both born in Croyden, NH.
