Per Bixby genealogy John Green Bixby usually went by the name Green, and was a dealer in cattle and horses. In 1790 he was living in New London County, Connecticut. He settled Hamilton, Chenango [now Madison] County, New York probably before 1799, when he was assessed a tax for property there.¹

He moved to Genesee County circa 1828 (Bixby genealogy), and later to Michigan, where he lived with his son, Justin.² He died there in 1859.

Research Notes for John Green Bixby:

In 1790 Green Bixby was living in New London County, Connecticut with one female, no doubt his first wife, Lydia.

In 1800 he was 26 to 44, living in Hamilton, Chenango [now Madison] County, New York, with four males under 10, and a female, 26 to 44.

In 1810 he is probably one of the two G. Bixby's living in Hamilton, the other being his brother, George. His wife at the time would have been Lydia, who had not yet passed away.

He may be the John G. Bixby living in LeRoy, Genesee County, New York in 1820, but his age is 16 to 25, too young. There is a John Bixby in Hamilton, also age 16 to 25. Both households have a female of the same age.

In 1830 and 1840, a John G. Bixby was living again in LeRoy, but likely too young to be the same man.

In 1830 a John G. Bixby of LeRoy sold land in the Craigie Tract, Genesee County to Jacob McCallum, no spousal signature on the deed.³ An examination of the remaining Genesee County grantor index for John G. Bixby up to 1848 referenced deeds with spousal signatures - Fanney up to 1839, and Puella after that. These were the two wivess of Green Bixby's son.

Green Bixby put his signature on a receipt dated 19 May 1835, Lebanon, Madison County, New York, acknowledging receipt of $2 owned to him by the estate of Elliot Converse (Sally's brother), of Lebanon.⁴

On 1 May 1839, John G. Bixby of Genesee County was issued a certificate of payment at the Kalamazoo office for 160 acres in Michigan.

IN 1850, Green Bixby, age 79, born Connecticut was living with Justin Bixby (his son), in Shelby, Macomb County, Michigan.

The U.S. census mortality schedules for Shelby indicate that Green Bixby, age 80 [sic], born in Connecticut, widowed, died in July 1859 of old age.⁵

Per Worcester County, Massachusetts, probate case 15581, Molly [Mary] Davidson died in Charlton 13 Dec 1854. She was a Revolutionary War pensioner, entitled to twenty two dollars and fifty five cents per annum. She left three children: Sally Converse of Spencer; Mary Davidson and Lucy Davidson, both of Charlton.¹

Mary is buried with her husband, Benjamin Davidson, Jr. in Greenville Baptist Cemetery, in Leicester. Her gravestone identifies her maiden name as King.²

Notes:

Howard Wood of Charlton made his will 24 Jan 1842. It was allowed by the Worcester County probate judge on 1 Feb 1842. In it he left bequests to his wife, Clarissa, and his two children "Merit Wood and Lydia E. Wheelock, wife of John A. Wheelock." He appointed William P. Marble and Rufus Mixer executors.¹

His gravestone in the Baypath Cemetery in Charlton is inscribed with: "1777 Howard Wood 1842; 1790 Waty his wife 1833."
