Notes:

Adeline was married circa 1828, based on the age of her presumed eldest child, Isaac H Ryan, who was born in Boston 24 Mar 1830. She may be the Miss Adeline J. King who, on 1 Feb 1827, had a letter waiting at the Boston post office.¹ In 1850 she was living in Boston, Ward 1, with her husband, Isaac, who was a carpenter, and five children: Isaac H, born 24 Mar 1830 in Boston; Amanda W., born 27 Jan 1834, Boston; Orland Joseph, born 6 Dec 1842, Boston; Adeline Drusilla (Ryan) Kizer, born 27 Aug 1845, Boston; and Emma (Ryan) Dailey, born 13 Apr 1849, Boston.²

In 1860 the family was living in Clay, St. Joseph County, Indiana. In 1870, Isaac, Adeline, and three children were again living in Clay. Neither Isaac nor Adeline were found in the 1880 census.

Identity of Adeline J. Ryan:

Adeline J. King who married Isaac Ryan, is presumed to be the unnamed daughter of Henry King, Jr., who was born in Leicester 22 Aug 1809, for the following reasons:

1) Her gravestone in Riverview Cemetery, South Bend, Indiana, has inscribed on it a birth date of 1809 (to 1873), matching the Leicester birth record.³

2) She was born In Leicester, Massachusetts, per Boston birth record of her daughter, Emma Ellen Ryan.⁴

3) The death certificates of four of her children identify her maiden name as King, namely Orlando Joseph Ryan, Emma Ilzaide Dailey, Rusilla A. Kizer, and Amanda W. Ryan.⁵

4) No other Adeline King is recorded in the Leicester vital records to 1850.

Conflicting Evidence and Possible Issues:

1) The death certificate of Isaac Henry Ryan, who is presumed to be one of her children, identifies her surname as Fisk. This is likely a mistake.⁶

She was probably the Jane E. King, wife of Dr. A. W. King, age 67, who died 29 Dec 1877, buried in Grove Cemetery, Windsor Locks, Hartford County, Connecticut. She was likely living with her son, Henry L. King, a resident of Windsor Locks in 1880.¹ Henry L. King later moved to Buffalo, New York, where he died 3 June 1913.²
