Mary F. WIlber was the daughter of Walter WIlber and Rhoda N. Stevens. She married Seeber Keller about 1853 [based on the age of her oldest child], with whom she had three children: Walter J., Byron S., and Josie [Josephine].¹

In 1865, Mary Keller was living in Volney, Oswego County, New York, with Seben Keller, 31, born Herkimer Co: and children Josephine, 2, Byron, 9, and Walter Keller, 10.

She married Ozander Hinman sometime after 4 June 1872 when Ozander's wife, Almira, died, and before 26 June 1875 when Mary F. Hinman released her dower rights on a deed from Ozander Hinman to Lucy Mary Howard.²

The will of Mary's father, Walter Wilber, dated 8 July 1876, listed his living children, including "Mary, wife of Ozander Hinman".³

Ozander died 5 Aug 1876, and is buried in the Volney Center Cemetery.⁴ His widow, Mary F. Hinman was executor of his estate.⁵

She married Anderson Gorton, 8 Nov 1890 in Fulton. She died in 1902 and is buried in the Volney Center Cemetry.

Research Notes for Mary Wilber:

Mary F. WIlber was the daughter of Walter WIlber and Rhoda N. Stevens. Her siblings were: Sarah, John, William, Edward, Reuben, Walter T., Mary F., and Christopher C.

If the age at death is correct on Mary's FindAGrave memorial, she was born 26 Sep 1834 (died 5 Nov 1902, aged 68y 1m 10d).⁶

Her father's FindAGrave memorial says she married Seeber Keller, had three children: Walter J., Byron S., and Josie. On 26 Nov 1881, she was a widow, living in Fulton.⁷ An Oswego County deed supports the marriage. The deed, dated 4 Jan 1861, transferred land from Davis M. Keller and his wife Abigail, Seeber Keller and Mary his wife, of Volney, Oswego County, to Jacob J. Keller and Sylvester D. Keller of the same place.⁸

Her married name was Hinman when she married Anderson Gorton 8 Nov 1890 in Fulton. She was the widow of Ozander Hinman of Volney, Oswego County, per following records:

Ozander sold property to Lucy Mary Howard 26 June 1875, with Mary F. Hinman releasing dower rights.⁹ Yet, she (nor anybody) was not living with Ozander in Volney on 1 June 1875, the reference date for the 1875 census.

Also, Mary F. Hinman was the sole heir and executor named in Ozander Hinman's will, dated 21 Apr 1876. On 17 Aug 1876, Mary F. Hinman presented the will to the surrogate court.⁵

The will of Mary's father, Walter Wilber, dated 8 July 1876, listed his living children, including "Mary, wife of Ozander Hinman".³

Per FindAGrave, Ozander died 5 Aug 1876 and is buried in the Volney cemetery, where Anderson and Mary F. Gorton are buried.¹⁰

Ozander's previous wife, Amanda (Sackett) Hinman died 4 June 1872; so Mary F. (Wilber) (Keller) (Hinman) Gorton must have married Ozander after that date and before 26 June 1875 when she appears on the deed.

Mary Wilber , 15, born New York, was living in New Haven, in the household of Burton and Julia Whitney. Her siblings Walter P, 18, Christoper, 13, and Ira, 10, were living in the household.

No Mary Wilber (Welber, Wilbur, etc) in Oswego County. A Maria Wilber, b. 1835, was a servant in New York City. Walter and Rhoda Wilber were living in New Haven, Oswego County, New York, just where the Oswego history said they moved. Also in the household: Ira and Christopher Wilber. Christopher is a sibling, but Ira is not listed amongst the siblings on Walters FindAGrave. Mary Wilber was not living in the household, possibly because she had already married (yes, see below).

In 1855 Mary Keller was living in Fulton, b. 1835, with Seben Keller (transcribed as Julius), 22, and Walter Keller, age11 months (as of 1 June 1855). This places the marriage of Mary and Seben about 1853.

A Seeber Keller land sale to Ellen J. Keller was recorded 9 Sep 1881, land in Volney.¹¹ Based on an Oswego County deed for this transaction, dated 27 Sep 1881, Seeber Keller was married to Jane E. Keller, and was a resident of Hebron, Potter County, Pennsylvania.¹² This is likely the same Seeber.

Mary Hinman was not found in the 1880 census.
