On 25 March 1850, Anderson and Ann Eliza Gorton were living in Franklin, Norfolk County, Massachusetts when they sold for $1 to Burroughs Gorton land located in Charlton that Anderson had inherited from [his grandfather] John Gorton.¹

This was probably Anson Gordon in the 1850 census, 31, born Massachusetts, living in Bellingham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, with Ann E. Gordon, 25, born Rhode Island, and two children: Sarah M. Gordon, 3, and Mary Ann Gordon, 3 months.

In 1855 Anderson and Ann E. Gorden [sic] were living in Franklin with Sarah M. Gorden, age 8, and Jenny Gorden, 1, all born in Massachusetts.

On 13 Sep 1856, Anderson and Eliza Ann Gorton were residents of Franklin when they sold land between Medway and Franklin to Eliab Pond.²

In 1860 he was living in Tompkins, Delaware Co, New York, age 41, with wife Eliza, 35, Sarah E, 13, Mary, 10, Jenny, 6, Avis, 1, all born Massachusetts except Avis who was born in NY.

During the Civil War he enlisted in the 89th New York Volunteers on 21 Oct 1861.³

In 1865 he was again in Tompkins, Delaware County, New York, a farmer, age 46, listed as Anderson Gordon, with his wife Ann E. Gordon, 40, Marianna Gordon, 15, Jennie L. Gordon, 11, Avice A Gordon, 6, and Darius A Gordon, 3, all born in Massachusetts, except for Avice A. and Darius A, who were both born in Delaware County.

In 1875 he was in Cranston, Providence County, Rhode Island, with Ann E. Gorton, both born in Massachusetts, and children Avis A Gorton, 16, and Darius A. Gorton, 13, both born in New York. He is listed as a milk dealer in the 1875 Providence, Rhode Island, city directory, next to his brother, Burroughs Gorton, both living on Fenner Ave.⁴

In 1880, he was a farmer, age 61, living in Seekonk, Bristol County, Massachusetts, with Ann Eliza Gorton, 55, both born in Massachusetts; with children Avis Gorton, 21, and Darius A. Gorton, 18, both born in New York.

Ann Eliza Gorton died at the age of 55 in Seekonk, 17 Dec 1880, daughter of Samuel and Ruth Scott.⁵

On 29 Oct 1881, Anderson Gorton filed for a civil war pension from Massachusetts.⁶

The 13 June 1890 edition of The Oswego Palladium reported that A. Gorton from Providence, Rhode Island, was visiting his brother, Oliver Gorton, in Volney.⁷

On 8 Nov 1890, Anderson married Mary F. Hinman (nee Wilber) in Fulton, New York.⁸

Anderson Gorton died in Palermo, Oswego County, New York, 13 Nov 1895, aged 73 years, buried in Volney Center Cemetery, Volney, Oswego County.⁹

On 1 Feb 1896, Mary F. Gorton filed for a widows pension on the service record of Anderston Gorton.⁶

Mary F. (Wilber) (Keller)(Hinman) Gorton died 5 Nov 1902, buried in Volney Center Cemetery.

Anderson's brother, Oliver Gorton, is buried in the same cemetery.
