John S. Wheelock's Montpelier marriage record indicates that he was from Moriah, NY when married to Elvira Sinclair in 1834.

The existence of John S. Wheelock in Moriah, Essex Co, NY at the same time as his presumed brothers Loran, George W, and Esquire Kinsman Wheelock, along with his middle name of Stowell (as given by the Barber Genealogy by Lillian Mae Wilson) are taken as sufficient evidence to place John Stowell Wheelock in this family. His birth date of 1808 fits well within the pattern of births, and lends further support to the claim.

Notes:

Moses Wight Wheelock made a good fortune in the manufacture of woolen goods and army blankets during the Civil War. He and his sister Sarah moved from Athens PA, to Battle Creek, Calhoun Co, MI, circa 1872. Neither of them were ever married. They died within a year of each other in Michigan, and both were taken back to the family plot in Athens, PA, where they are buried. The estate was settled by Charles H. Wheelock, a nephew.¹
