Roxa Gorton

Birth: 2 Sep 1828, Charlton, Worcester Co, MA

Father: Sanford Gorton
Mother: Roxa Wheelock

Notes:

There is no indication Roxa survived into adulthood. She is not found in any records after her birth, and her children are not mentioned in the will of her brother, Burroughs Gorton, who died in 1910 without heirs. A family tree on FamilySearch suggests she is the husband of John Halpin, who lived in Cicero, Onondaga County, New York in 1850 and 1855. Roxa G. Halpin died in 1867, and is buried in North Syracuse Cemetery, North Syracuse, Onondaga County.1 On the surface, it looks promising. Roxa was born in 1828 per gravestone, her middle initial matches 'Gorton', but census records say she was born in Herkimer County, New York, not Massachusetts.
