Edward was a mechanic, and later an undertaker. He married his distant cousin, Ida L. Morey (her 5g-grandparents were Benjamin Wheelock and Huldah Thayer).

Research Notes for Edward A. Wheelock:

There is both a Charlton and a Worcester marriage record for Edward and Ida. Newspaper articles indicate they were married in Worcester.

His death certificate and gravestone both give a birth date of 1851. But the town and state records of his birth say 17 July 1852, as does the 1900 census, which says July 1852. Technically, the 1855, 1860 and 1870 census records are consistent with a 17 July 1851 birth date; but the 1865, 1880, 1900, and 1910 census records are consistent with the 17 July 1852 birth date.

His Mason Membership Card gives a birth date of 17 July 1852, which was presumably information supplied first hand by Edward, as opposed to the his death certificate, on which the birth date was supplied by Mary L. Merry.¹

The 1852 date is considered more reliable because (1) it appears on the state and local birth records, which were presumably made closer to his birth than the other records, (2) it appears on his Mason Membership card, which information was supplied directly by Edward, (3) it is consistent with the 1900 census, for whom the informant was either Edward or Ida. The informant on the death record (and likely the gravestone) was probably the Mary L. Morey, Edward's sister in law, whose knowledge was more indirect.
