Mother: Lucinda Marie Clapp
Spouse: Alice May Arnold

- Carrie A. Wheelock, born 24 Nov 1886, Hanover Township, Jackson Co, MI
- Inda Wheelock, born MI
Notes:
The following obituary for Hilen, kindly suppled by Janice Thornton, who lives near Hanover, appeared in the Jackson Citizen Patriot, 10 or 11 Jan 1904.
Hilden D. Wheelock was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mar 18, 1865, and died at his home, three and one-half miles southwest of Hanover village, January 6, 1904, aged nearly thirty-nine years, after an illness of two weeks' duration from appendicitis.
The subject of this sketch, Hilen D. Wheelock, of Hanover township, was neither a social power, a rich landed proprietor nor a wealthy capitalist. Although running on the minority party ticket, he was three times elected to the most important local office, that of supervisor, and by remarkably larger majorities. The reason for this is clear to all who were aquainted with the man and his character. Hilen D. Wheelock was a native of Minnesota. His parents were Hilen D. and Lucinda Clapp Wheelock - the former a native of Ohio and the latter of Jackson county, Michigan, the daughter of Wm. Clapp, one of the oldest settlers in Hanover township, and for many years was justice of the peace and supervisor of the township.
The parents of Mr. Wheelock were married in Jackson county and soon thereafter took up their residence in Minneapolis. Four children were born to this union, only one of whom is living - William C., who is a druggist in business in Kalamazoo. In July, 1871, Hilden D. Wheelock, Sr., breathed his last at his home in Jonesville, Hillsdale county, Michigan. Bereft of the partner of her joys and sorrows and the protector of her family and her home, Mrs. Wheelock returned with her children to the home of her girlhood in Hanover township, and ever since she has been an honored resident of this township, except a few years spent in Moscow township, Hillsdale county.
The district schools of America are the best promoters of good citizenship in the land. Here the freat and lowly alike receive instruction, and many men have risen to the highest eminence whose schooling ended when he ceased to attend the district school. It was in such schools Hilen D. Wheelock received his education, and when not employed with his studies he was busy with some useful and remunerative labor. On reaching manhood he secured employment as a farm laborer, and followed that line of business for some two years, when he was enabled to procure an outfit of his own and enter into business as an agriculturalist on his own acount.
At Moscow, Hillsdale county, December 16, 1885, Hilen D. Wheelock ws united in marriage to Miss Alice Arnold, a native of Michigan, born June 3, 1867. Two children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock, bother interesting and intelligent girls, Carrie A. and India, the former being a student in the Hanover schools.
The township of Hanover is generally recognized as being in politics, democratic, Hilden D. Wheelock was a republican. Disregarding his political views, the voters of his township, some years ago, elected him to the office of justice of the peace to fill a vacancy and he served in that capacity two years. In the spring of 1901 he was nominated by his party for supervisor. When the votes were counted he had twenty-six majority. In 1902 he was renominated and elected by fifty-four majority, and was re-elected in 1903. He was chairman of the most important committee upon the board of supervisors.
Mr. Wheelock was a member of the Hamilton lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Moscow, being also a member of the Mystic Workers of the World, in which order he carried a benefit of $1,000.
Hilen Wheelock was a pure and upright man, who possessed the regard and confidence of his fellow citizens with talent of no common order, and a mind rich in knowledge that was practically self-acquired.
In closing this brief review of our departed brother, suffice it to state that few stood as high in the esteem of the public or have shown themselves as worthy the confidence imposed in him. His relations with this world have been free and straightforward; his integrity was unassailable, and nothing savoring in the least of dishonor has ever been associated with the good name he bore.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church in Hanover, Saturday, January 9, 1904, at 1 o'clock PM. The county officials and the Jackson county board of supervisors attended in a body. Mr. Howell, chairman of the board, made a few very appropriate remarks. The floral offerings were many and profuse, and bore evidence of the esteem in which the deceased was held throughout Jackson and Hillsdale counties.
Rev. J.M. Wolfe officiated. The remains were laid to rest in Hanover cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn.
