- Polly Morey, born about 1812, Otsego Co, NY
Notes:
Nathan's birth is recorded in Woodstock, Connecticut, and Orford, Grafton County, New Hampshire.1
Nathan Morey of Charlton and Sally RIch of Thompson, Connecticut, filed intention to marry in Charlton 18 Jan 1798. The marriage took place in Thompson, 8 Feb 1798.2
Nathan Morey was living in Milford, Otsego County, New York in 1800, and 1810, not found there in 1820. That this is the same Nathan is proven by the tax records and deed below, which show that his brothers were also in Milford.3 Furthermore, many of his children record their birth places in Otsego County, per 1855 New York state census.
In 1803, Leonard, Nathan, Amzi, and Silas Morey were taxed in Milford.4 A deed from Leonard Morey and Phebe his wife of Worcester, Otsego County to James Moore Esq of Milford, Otsego County proves that this is the same Leonard Morey who built the Rider Tavern in Charlton, especially since it is signed by Amzi Morey, Nathan's (and Leonard's) half brother.5
In 1820 Nathan Morey (indexed at Ancestry as Nathan Maria) was living in Holland, Erie County, New York, aged 45 or above, with 3 females under 10, a female between 10 and 16, a female 17 to 26, and a female 27 to 45 (presumably Sarah); a male under 10, a male 10 to 15, and 3 males 16 to 26. Amzi Morey was also found in the 1820 census living in Holland, on the same page as Nathan, though not indexed correctly at Ancestry nor FamilySearch.
Per 1855 New York state census, Nathan and Sally had been living in Holland, Erie Couny, New York, for 36 years, implying they came there [from Otsego County] around 1819.
In 1830 Nathan Morey was living in Holland, aged 50 to 60, with a male between 10 and 15, and a male between 20 and 30; and a female 50 to 60 (Sarah), a female 5 to 9, another 10 to 14, two 15 to 19, and one 20 to 29 (for a total of 7 possible children). Also living in town were Ephraim Morey, Israel Morey, Amaziah Morey, Chapin Wheelock, and possibly other relatives.6
In 1840 Nathan and Sarah were possibly living in Holland with Franklin Morey, age 30 to 39, based on the existence of an older couple in the household.
In 1850, Nathan, 75, born Connecticut, and Sarah, 73, born New York, were living in Holland, with Sally, 33, born New York, Benjamin, 50, born Connecticut, and Miranda, age 25, born New York.
In 1855 Nathan was 81, had been living in Holland for 36 years (i.e. arrived 1819), as had Sully [sic, Sally], age 78, both born in Connecticut. Also in the household: Benjamin Morey, 55, born Conn., and Miranda Morey, 20, born in Erie County.
In 1860, Nathan was 84, born Massachusetts, living in Holland with Jerome B. Morey, 40, B. F. Morey, 60, Maranda Morey, 35, and Polly Morey, 46, all born New York. No Sally.
Neither Nathan nor Sally appear in the 1865 New York state census.
Research Notes:
Per Find A Grave, Sally Rich Morey died 27 Aug 1867, age unreadable, buried in Holland Cemetery, her gravestone inscribed with "Sally Rich wife of Nathan Morey" and is right next to Nathan Morey; Nathan was born 8 Mar 1776, d. 6 Mar 1862, aged 85y 11m 26d, buried in Holland Cemetery.7 FamilySearch says she died 5 Aug 1857 in Holland, which is more consistent with census records (since she doesn't appear in the 1860 census), but the gravestone seems to say 27 Aug xxxx.
On 11 Jan 1794, multiple heirs of the estate of Sarah Morey of Charlton, sold to Nathaniel Morey of Charlton a tract of land in Charlton, abutted by land belonging to the heirs of Nathaniel Green, Nathaniel Jones, Jacob Manning. This land was originally deeded by Nath Eustice to his daughter Sarah Morey.
The heirs of the estate of Sarah Morey were: Israel Morey of Orford, Grafton County, New Hampshire; John Green and Sarah his wife of Caldrain (in her own right); Zenas Morey [???] and Abigail his wife in her own right; Silas Morey, Nehusta Morey, and Martha Morey. Signed or marked by the grantors, and witnessed by Ephraim Morey, Zenas Morey, Nathan Morey, Eli Wheelock, Leonard Morey, and Ebenezer Green.8
Children of Nathan and Sarah (Rich) Morey:
Ephraim Morey first appears in the 1830 census, born 1801 - 1810
Israel Morey first appears in the 1840 census, born 1801 - 1810
Nathan Morey first appears in the 1840 census, born 1801 - 1810
Franklin Morey first appears in the 1840 census, born 1791 - 1800, looks like Nathan, aged 60 - 69 and Sarah, aged 60 - 69, were living with him. This is probably Benjamin F. Morey below, possibly born in Connecticut.
William Morey first appears in the 1840 census, born 1801 - 1810
Vinal L Morey first appears in the 1840 census, born 1801 to 1810
Polly Morey, born about 1812, was living with Nathan and Sarah in 1860
Sally Morey, born about 1817, NY, was living with Nathan and Sarah in 1850
Benjamin, born about 1800, Connecticut, was living with Nathan and Sarah in 1850
B. F. Morey, born 1800, NY (possibly same as Benjamin and Frankline above) was living with Nathan and Sarah in 1860.
Jerome B. Morey, born about 1820 NY, was living with Nathan and Sarah in 1860
Miranda, born about 1825 in Erie County, was living with Nathan and Sarah in 1850, 1855, 1860

Nathan S. Morey
Birth: about 1806, VT
- 1855 NY state census, Chautauqua Counyt, New York, household of Nathan and Jane Morey.
Death: after 1870
- 1870 U.S. census, Chautauqua, Chautauqua County, New York, household of Nathan and Jane Morey.
Spouse: Jane Case
Marriage: about 1827, probably Wales, Erie Co, NY
Notes:
Research Notes for Nathan S. Morey:
More research required to identify parents and siblings.
On 13 Mar 1830, Nathan S. Morey with Jane Morey his wife, and Catherine Morey, sold property in Wales, Erie County (township 9 range 5, west part of middle third of lot 39) to John Franciscus and John Carpenter.1
In 1830, Nathan S. Morey was living in Wales, Erie County, aged 20 to 30, with a wife, aged 15 to 20, and a daughter, under 5.2
He was not found in the 1840 census. The birth of his daughter around 1845 in Pennsylvania suggests the family was living in Pennsylvania during the 40s (see 1855 New York census). Deeds suggest he owned land with Jeremiah Carpenter in Warren County, Pennsylvania.3
In 1850 Nathan S. Morey was a labourer, living in Chautauqua, Chautauqua County, age 44 years, born New York, with Jane Morey, age 37 years, also born New York. The children were: Aloa, 24, Jane, 20, Lucinda, 17, Nathan C., 14, Pardon, 10, and Nancy, 5, all born New York.
In 1855, he was called Nathan Morey in the census, living in Chautauqua, farmer, age 49, born Vermont. His wife, Jane, was 42, born in Madison County, New York. The children were: Nathan Morey, Jr, 19, Pardon, 14, both born in Erie County; Nancy Morey, 10, born Pennsylvania.
In 1860 he was listed as Nathan Morey, again in Chautauqua, labourer, age 54, born New York. Jane was 49, born New York. The children were: Nathan Jr, 24, Pardin, 19, both labourer's born in New York. Also Nancy, 15, born Pennsylvania, and Eliza, 9, born New York.
In 1865, was listed as Nathan S. Morey, farmer, age 59, born Madison County, with his wife, Jane Morey, 52, mother of 6 children, one of who was married. The children were: Lucinda Davis, 32, daughter, born Genesee County, New York, with her son, Wm. U. Davis, 2y 10m; Nathan C. Morey, 29, son, born Erie County, Parden U. Morey, 25, born Erie County, Nancy Morey, 20, born Pennsylvania, and Elisa Morey, 13, born Chautauqua County. Nancy Case, 83, born Rensellear County, New York, mother in law.
In 1870 Nathan and Jane Morey were living in Chautauqua, Chautauqua County, New York, in the home of their presumed son, Parden Morey, age 30, farmer. Nathan was a teamster, age 67, born Vermont. Jane was 56, a housekeeper, born New York. Note that Nathan could not have been the Nathan Sprague Morey Jr., b. 28 Oct 1805, d. 12 July 1867, buried in the Holland Cemetery.4
In 1875, Jane Morey was still living with her son, Parden H. Morey, in Chautauqua. Nathan was not present. Per FamilySearch he died 24 April 1871 in Chautauqua.5
In 1880 Jane Morey was 67, widowed, living in Chautauqua with her daughter, Lucinda Davis.
In 1892 Jane Morey was 80, again living in Chautauqua. Pardon Morey was the enumerator.
She was not found in the 1900 census. Per FindAGrave, she died 26 Oct 1894, and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Chaugauqua County.6 Unfortunately, no obit, death record, or gravestone could be found for Nathan S. Morey, who died in 1871 (per FamilySearch). The hope was that his parents could be identified.
