In 1855, Polley Morey was 42, born Otsego County, wife of Vinal L. Morey, 40, born Pennsylvania, hotel keeper by occupation. Their child, Edson Morey, age 1, born in Erie County, was also in the household, as was: Everett Wheelock, 17, nephew, born Erie County, Elisabeth Morres, 17, and Amanda McCarthy, 15, both servants.

In 1860, Polly Morey was a resident of Holland, age 46, living with her father, Nathan, and her siblings Jerome B. Morey, 40, B. F. Morey, 60, and Miranda Morey, 35. Vinal Morey was not present in the household.

On 26 July 1861, in Joliet, Illinois, Vinal L. Morey filed an "affidavit of the non-residence of Polly Morey", published in the 30 July 1861 issue of the Joliet Signal.¹

Per probate record of her brother, Jerome B. Morey, dated 8 Apr 1868, Polly Morey was the wife of Vinal Morey, and resided in Madison, Wisconsin.²

In 1870, Polley W. Morey was a resident of Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, age 58, living with her sister, Sally A Larkin and her husband Daniel.

In 1870 and 1880, Vinal L. Morey, born about 1815 in Pennsylvania, was a resident of Manteno, Kankakee County, Illinois. He was a merchant. In the 1880 census, he was a widower. He died in 1897, and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington, Will County, Illinois, with his son, Fred.

Polly was deceased by 2 Aug 1882, when the probate records of her brother, Benjamin F. Morey, refer to her as deceased, and state that her only child was Fred Morey of Chicago, Illinois.³

Research Notes for Polly:

Per 1855 New York census, Polley was born in Otsego County, and had been in Erie County for 30 [probably should be 36] years, which implies she came to Erie about 1825 - not consistent with the 1855 census for her parents, which said they had been in Erie County for 36 years, or the 1855 census for her sister Catherine (Morey) Wheelock, which also says 36.

Research Notes for Amzi Morey:

In 1820 he was a resident of Holland, Niagara (now Erie) County, New York, aged between 26 and 44, living with a female 26 to 44 (presumably his wife), and a male under 10, a male 10 to 15, 2 females under 10, and 2 between 10 and 15. He is not indexed at Ancestry or FamilySearch, but is on the same page as his brother, Nathan Morey (indexed as Nathan Maria).

In 1830 he was again in Holland, aged 50 to 59, with a female 50 to 59, a male child 10 to 14, a male 20 to 29, a female 10 to 14, and a female 15 to 19.

In 1840 he was in Holland, aged 60 to 69, with a female 60 to 69, a male 20 to 29, a female 10 to 14, a female 15 to 19, and a female 20 to 29.

In 1850 Amaziah Morey was 71, born Mass, a farmer, residing in Holland, Erie County, New York, with Deborah Morey, 71, born Connecticut, Deborah Morey, 34, born New York, Amaziah Morey, 32, Avilla Morey, 28, and Frederick Morey, 8 months, all born in New York. Robert Cambell, 17, born Ireland, a laborer by occupation, was also in the household. Frederick died 23 Oct 1850, in Holland, aged 1 year and 6 days.¹

In 1855, Amzi was 76, born New Hampshire, father of Amiz Morey, Jr, who was the head of household. Amzi, Sr, had been in Holland for 39 years (implying he arrived about 1816). His wife, Deborah Morey was not present. She died 24 Mar 1853, in Holland.² Amzi, Jr, was 37, born in Erie County, New York. His wife was Eveline Morey, 35, birth place unrecognized, perhaps Chautauqua County, with their children Alice S. Morey, 3, Ida A. Morey, 2, and James Morey, 6 months, all born in Erie County. Deborah Morey, age 39, born Otsego County, sister of Amzi, Jr., was also in the household, along with Alem Pratt, 11, born Erie County, adopted child.

In 1860, Amzi Morey Sr. was 81, born in New Hampshire, living in the household of his son, Amzi Morey, Jr., 42, his wife, Evealine Morey, 40, and children Alice L. Morey, 8, Ida A Morey, 6, Frank S. Morey, 2, all born New York.

In 1865 Amzi Morey,86, born New Hampshire, was again living in Holland with his son, Amzi, Jr., who was a farmer, age 47, born Erie County. His wife was Eveline H Morey, 46, born in Chautauqua County, mother of 6 children, of whom 1 was married. Her children Ida Morey, age 11, and Frank Morey, age 7, were also in the household, along with Albert Rogers, 20, a servant.

Per gravestone in Holland Cemetery, Amzi Sr. died in 1866.

Amzi Morey, Jr., aged 78 years, died 17 Feb 1896.³ He was married to Eveline H. Pier, per Catalogue of the Memorandum Society, of Mount Holyoke Female Seminary, for Thirty YEars, Ending 1867.⁴
