According the Carlyle Capron Wheelock (CCW) in his "Wheelock Genealogy" manuscript, Johanna's maiden name was Anderson.¹ The Anderson maiden name is presumably from her marriage certificate, in possession of a descendant (2012), Mary Ann Graham McIff. However, there are many records that indicate her maiden name was Nord (or North), including the marriage certificate of her daughter, Deltine Freed, the social security application of a different daughter, Helen Freed Lapoint, and others.

Research Notes for Hazel Brown:

According to the wedding announcement of Hazel and Rex in The Rock Island Argus, Miss Hazel Brown was the daughter of C. S. Brown, 3207 Park Sixteenth Street, Moline. Her father was the proprietor of 'Poppy Gardens'. The two were planning to move into their home in Camp McClellan, Davenport, Iowa, once it was completed.¹

The obituary of Hazel's mother in March 1924 shows that C. S. Brown was Clarence S. Brown, who established the Poppy Gardens resort in the summer of 1923. Hazel's mother, Effie J. Nickle married Clarence S. Brown 15 March 1889 in Audubon, Iowa. After her marriage she came to Moline with her husband where she had lived since, except for 10 years spent in Oklahoma. She died 7 March 1924 in Moline, survived by her husband and one daughter, Hazel.² She is buried with her husband, and a young child, Early Brown, in South Moline Township Cemetery.³

In 1910, Clarence, 44, Effie, 38, and Hazel, 15, were living in Wagoner Ward 3, Wagoner County, Oklahoma.

Social Security records imply that Hazel B. Moss was born 26 Aug 1894, made a social security claim 29 Apr 1960. No records have yet been found tying this to Hazel Janette Brown, but online genealogies assert that she was one and the same.⁵

On 26 Feb 1937 the Peoples Savings Bank and Trust of Moline, Illinois, had a legal notice published in the newspaper, demanding payment by R. R. Wheelock and Hazel J. Wheelock for a promisory note dated 16 Dec 1932, which was apparently issued in payment for a lot in Camp McClellan, Davenport, Iowa. They were "non-residents" of Iowa.⁶ The lot was later foreclosed on, and sold by the bank.

Mrs. Joseph Campas, 45, of Moline died from a fall on 30 May 1958 in Moline. She was the former Adel Marceaux, born 1 May 1913 in Abbevile, Louisiana. she married Joseph Campo in Moline, 1946. She was survived by three sisters: Mrs. Ora Baylis, Santa Barbara, California; Miss Fannie Marceaux, Abbeville; and another unnamed sister. No children mentioned.¹ Although her obit says she married Joseph Campos in 1946, the two were not married in the 1950 census, though they were living together with Adele's son, John Pappas. Adele was not divorced from her former husband, Harry Pappas until 1948.

In 1940, Adele (Marceaux) Wheelock's children, Shareen and Marcia Wheelock, both born in Texas, were living with their aunt, Fannie Marceaux in Ward 3, Vermilion, Louisiana - presumably the same Fannie listed above, sister of Adele Marceaux.

In Dec 1948, Harry Pappas of Moline was granted a divorce from Adele Pappas, also of Moline. They were married 9 Jan 1943. Custody of a child was awarded to Mr. Pappas. Mrs. Pappas was given the right to resume her former name of Adele Marceaux.²
