According to unsourced posting on the internet, there is a Matilda Wheelock, 2 Feb 1801 - 26 Mar 1847, wife of J. W. Wheelock buried in an unnamed cemetery on Eastport Road, in Tishomingo Co, MS. Is this Josephus' first wife?¹.

He served in the 68th regiment New York Infantry National Guard during the civil war.

In 1880 he was living in Villenova, 35, machinist, with his wife, Florence A. Jay, 25, Floyd Jay, 4, and Girdon Jay, 1.

In 1900 he was again in Villenova, listed as Edwin Jay, age 55, born Sep 1844 in New York, married 26 years to his wife, Florence Jay, born June 1854, in New York. Florence was the mother of two children, both living. Children in the household were: Floyd Jay, born May 1876, New York, and Girdon Jay, born July 1878. Edgar's parents were also in the household: Josiah Jay, born Aug 1820, New York, and Cathrine Jay, born Feb 1818, New York.

He died in the Woman's Christian Association Hospital in Jamestown, 31 May 1914.¹ He was buried on 2 June 1914 at Hamlet.²
