Given that he probably lived in Chenango Co, since that's where Company K was recruited, it's likely that Lyman was a son of Calvin Wheelock of Pitcher, Chenango Co, NY. This is confirmed by "Missing Links, Issues 42-65", page 1130, published by Chedwato Service, 1966 , online at books.google.com, though the publication does not cite sources.

It's presumed that his mother was Nancy, based on the uncertain birth date of 1826.
