"Elder John Crandall of of Rhode Island and His Descendants", by John Cortland Crandall, New Woodstock, NY, 1949 gives Polly's birth date as 5 Sep 1827, and mistakenly states that she married "Joseph H. Wheeler" in Dayton, NY. However, the book gives the correct death place for Joseph (Hamlet, NY), and indicates that Polly died in 1899, which is consistent with her headstone in the Hamlet Cemetery. The book is ambiguous about Polly's birth place, indicating first that she and her siblings were born in Iowa (pg 205), and later (pg 404) in Villenova, NY. The 1825 and 1830 NY Census shows her father living in Villenova, NY; so given Polly's 1826 (or 1827) birth date, it is likely she was born there.
The descent of Polly's father, Daniel Stanton Crandall, from John Howland, a Pilgrim of Plymouth Colony, is documented as follows: Daniel Stanton Crandall; son of Henry Francis Crandall and Polly Denison; daughter of George Denison and Bethiah Crandall; son of Joseph Denison and Lucy Chesebough; son of George Denison and Sarah Minor; son of George Denison and Mercy Gorham; daughter of John Gorham and Desire Howland; daughter of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley.
