Josiah was from Annapolis, Nova Scotia.
William Hill is of the eight generation from John Hill, one of the early settlers of Plymouth, MA (circa 1632).
He was engaged in the mercantile business at Wilkinsonville, in the firm Dudley and Hill (1836). He was a prominent man in the affairs of Sutton, serving on the board of selectmen, assessors, etc. He served as a representative to the general court, and was a senator from the 25th Representative District of Worcester County. In 1878 he was a director of the Grafton National Bank.

According to the gravestone, Emily and William had a daughter, "Caroline Wheelock", May 15, 1840 to Sep 6, 1907.
