Mary Brinsmead is the daughter of John Brinsmead (1681-1753) and Abigail Wheeler (1680-1764, born in Milford, Connecticut). John Brinsmead is the son of Paul Brinsmead (d. 1696) and Elizabeth Hawkins (b. 1659, probably in Farmington, Connecticut). Paul Brinsmead is the son of John Brinsmead (b. 1617 in England, d. 1673) and Mary Carter.

Her tombstone inscription reads:

"Consecrated to the memory of MARY of the family of Brinsmaid in Milford, Connecticut and consort of Eleazer Wheelock S.T.D., President of Dartmouth College. She lived in the fear of God, and in the lively exercise of the Christian virtue till her departure in 1783, Anno aetatis 69. In testimony of the filial reverence this monument was erected and incribed by John Wheelock".
