The headstone in Pine Hill Cemetery reads "infant, son of Andrus and Hannah P. Wheelock, Jr., died June 20, 1859". However, the death date is not consistent with the death date of his mother, Hannah, 1853.

The ancestry of Elijah is not know for certain; but it is possible he is the son of Phinehas Wheelock and Prudence Dodge, of Surry, NH. The "History of Surry", by Frank B. Kingsbury, 1925, says the following about Elijah: "parentage unknown, came from Alstead to Surry, was taxed 1809, kept tavern that year and removed from here after a year or two. He m. Anna ____, b. abt 1780; d. at Surry a widow 7 Aug 1856; buried Surry; lived at No. 122 and is remembered as 'The little old lady Wheelock'". The Alstead marriage record for Elijah Wheelock and Anna Straw indicates that Elijah was from Walpole, and Anna from Alstead. The children shown here (Phinehas, Hiram, John, and Caroline) are all taken from NH birth records. Elijah's NH death record gives age 35 when he died.
