Amasa was born in Sanbornton, NH. He accompanied his father to Littleton, NH where he lived from 1809 to 1826, and then to Newport, VT. The 15 Nov 1828 Boston Columbian Centinel newspaper records the marriage "in Walpole" of Gill Wheelock "of Boston" to Ellen Bellows, daughter of Josiah Bellows Esq.
