Notes:

Dime's sister-in-law, Josephine (Else) Wheelock died of tuberculosis in Feb 1918, shortly after the birth of her third child, Harry Maurice Wheelock. Unable to have children of their own, Dime and Ed adopted Harry, who lived with them in Hamlet until he enlisted in the Navy in 1943.

Dime H. Wheelock obtained a teaching certificate at Cherry Creek, and taught school for several years, including at Hamlet for one year in 1903-1904.¹

She marred Ed Crowell in 1903. Together they owned and operated the Red & White grocery store in Hamlet. Ed was the Postmaster for many years. Upon his death on 11 Mar 1931, Dime became the acting Postmaster. She was officially appointed Postmaster on 22 April 1931, and remained in that capacity until March 10, 1947, when she sold her store to Fred J. Ruttenbur. She was the only Postmistress for the Hamlet Post Office in its 104 year existence. The Post Office at Hamlet closed Dec. 31, 1954.²

Dime was always active in civic affairs. Among other positions, she was the first president of the Hamlet branch of the Red Cross, when it was established there on 30 June 1917,³ and was secretary of the Hamlet Grange, 15 Jan 1923.⁴
