  5. Ira Wheelock, born 29 Sep 1833, Leicester, Livingston Co., NY

Notes:

The following is excerpted from "Biographical Review, Biographical Sketches of Leading Citizens of Livingston and Wyoming Counties, New York", Boston, Biographical Review Publishing Company, 1895.

Harry served in the War of 1812, but afterward worked on a homestead till 1819, when he was twenty seven years old. He then came to Livingston County, and purchased a tract of land in Leicester, whereon a log house was the only improvement. After this purchase he returned to Ontario County, and married Judith Gillett. The young couple commenced life in the log cabin; and within its lowly walls was born Austin Wheelock, the special subject of this sketch. In due time a frame house took the place of the more primitive residence; and here Mr. Harry Wheelock remained until his death, which occurred on June 13, 1873, when he had passed from his fourscoure years, and had seen the county develop from wilderness to wealth.

Thankful Wheelock

Notes:

The Thankful Wheelock who married John Crapo 14 Jan 1821 in Concord, Massachusetts was thought to be a daughter of Jonathan Wheelock and Lucy Beaman. This, however, was incorrect. She is now known to be Thankful Harrington, the first wife of Josiah Wheelock, who married John Crapo when Josiah died.
