Mary Ann Wheelock is buried in North Street Cemetery, Auburn, NY. She died July 14, 1884, Age 67y, 11m, 24d. Several children and grandchildren are also buried in North Street Cemetery. Though it is not proven, this is probably the same Mary.¹

Notes:

Chapin Wheelock learned the tailor trade and followed the business several years in his home town. He came to Illinois in 1840 and located at St. Charles where he engaged in the clothing business, continuing there until 1853 when he came to Moline and purchased an interest in the paper mill and became superintendent. He retired in 1883.¹

In 1880 he was living in Moline with his wife Saloam, daughters Florence Wheelock and Alice Hubbard, sons Chapin and William Wheelock, and grandsdaughter Florence Hubbard.

After his wife died, he went to California to spend the winter with his sister in law, the wife of Darius T. Wheelock who lived in Watsonville, California. On the way he stopped in southern California and was so taken by the country and climate that he decided to stay. On 1 Feb 1891 he purchased a ranch in Hix, about ten miles from San Diego.²

He died suddenly of pneumonia 30 March 1891 in San Diego, California.³
