He was probably the Glenn Abbott in 1910, age 20, occupation machinist, in the automobile industry, lodging in Buffalo, New York.

He was living in Amarillo, Texas, when he registered for the draft on 5 June 1917. At the time, he owned a garage, and had a wife and a baby.¹ In 1920, he was again in Amarillo, listed as G. A. Abbott, the owner of an autombile repair shop, age 30, born New York, with his wife, Rochelle S. Abbott, age 25, born in Alabama. No children in the household.

In 1930 he was again in Amarillo, listed as George E. Abbott, age 39, owner of a machine shop, living with his wife, Rochelle Abbott, age 35, born Alabama. Joanne Abbott, niece, age 5, born New York, was also in the household.

Mrs. Rochelle Sanford Abbott died in Amarillo on 7 Aug 1932. She was born 19 August 1894 in Alabama, the daughter of James Sanford and Susie Sanders. Her husband is listed as George E. Abbott of Amarillo.²

On 16 Feb 1942, when he registered for the WW II draft, he was living in Houston, Texas. His employer was Weaver Motor Parts.³

In 1950 he was living in Buffalo, New York, with his wife, Helen L. Abbott, age 55, and his in laws, Fred E. Stillwell, 75, and Bessie A Stillwell, 77.

Research Notes for Glenn E. Abbott:

The records conflict on his birth date.

The 1892 NY state census, taken 16 Feb 1892, states that he was 3 years old. The 1900 census says he was born May 1890, inconsistent with the 1892 census. The 1905 NY state census gives age 15. His WW I draft registration card gives birth date 7 Dec 1888, which conflicts with the birth date of his older brother, Howard Larue Abbott, who was born 25 Sep 1888. His WW II draft card states that he was born 7 Dec 1898 in Hamburg, New York, which conflicts with the 1900 census, and nearly every other birth record. The Florida death index reports that he was born 7 Dec 1889, died 9 Feb 1972 in Volusia, Florida.⁴ The U.S. Social Security Death Index agrees, giving birth date 7 Dec 1889. His headstone says 1890.⁵

The 7 Dec 1889 birth date seems more likely to be correct. It fits into his mother's birth timeline without conflicts, is consistent with the 1892 and 1905 New York state census records, and matches the Florida death index, and Social Security records. It matches the WW II record as well, but with two adjacent digits in the year transposed.

The 1900 birth date is also possible. It also fits with his mother's birth timeline, and is consistent with the 1900 census, the 1905 New York census, and his gravestone.
