Notes:

Though Susan Packard's birth is not recorded there, it seems likely she was born in Milton, Massachusetts. Her parents published their intention to marry in Milton 13 Dec 1788, and were supposedly married there 8 Jan 1789. Susan, according to Readfield, ME, town records, was born a month later, 7 Feb 1789. The death records of two of her children, Mary and Elizabeth, identify Milton as her birth place. The death records of two other children, Evelyn and Frederick, identify Newton, Massachusetts, as her birth place - probably an error.

A great-aunt on her mother's side, Mary Vose, b. 15 Oct 1732, married (--?--) Russell, as mentioned in the division of Mary's father's estate (Samuel Vose). This possibly explains the reference to her maiden name as "Susan Russell" in two of her children's death records. Russell may have been her middle name.¹

Susan Packard's headstone in Kents Hill Cemetery in Readfield, ME, reads as follows: "Susan R. w. of David Wheelock d. Apr.12,1876 Aet. 87y. 2m.". This gives a birth date of Feb 1789 (or 12 Feb 1789), in close alignment with her Readfield, ME birth record, 7 Feb 1789.
