John A Taylor, age 2 years 5 months, born Chautauqua County, was enumerated in the 1865 New York census, taken 10 June 1865, living in Charlotte, Chautauqua County, New York, with his parents, John Taylor, 35, born in Monroe County, New York, and Ellen Taylor, age 34, born England. His siblings, Frank, 9, Mary, 6, and Alonzo Taylor, 4, were also in the household.

Per obituary, he was born in Charlotte, was a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County, member of the Dunkirk board of education from 1910 to 1912, councilman in 1911 and 1915, and mayor in 1916 and 1917. He died 11 Sep 1930, and was survived by his wife, Mrs. Harriet C. (Wheelock) Taylor, two sons, Thomas W. Taylor, and Robert L. Taylor, both of Dunkirk; and several siblings: Mrs. Otis McLaren, of Los Angeles, Mrs. Otis Sample of Silver Crrek, Mrs. Simons Barnes, Jamestown, and Frank Taylor of Stockton.¹

Notes:

The 1930 census shows Edward Wheelock, 24, pharmacist, living in Flint with his wife, Alberta, 23, both born in Michigan - suggesting that George Edward may have had a second wife between Arlie May and Helen. This is consistent with one of his marriage records to Helen Hiftline, showing two previous marriages for George.¹

In 1940, E. George Wheelock was 34, a resident of Adrian, Lenawee, Michigan, a manufacturer in the food and drug industry, living with his wife, C. Helen Wheelock, 29, with son John C. Wheelock, 2, all born in Michigan. His WW II draft card, dated 16 Oct 1940, identifies his wife as Helen Caroline Wheelock.²

George was a registered pharmacist. In 1943 he and Helen purchased a drug store in Adrian, and operated it under the name Wheelock Drug Store.³ The store celebrated it's 25th anniversary on 2 Dec 1968.⁴

Later in life he lived in Tuscon, Arizona, where he died 31 Aug 1980. He was survived by his wife, Helen, and sons John and James of Tucson, Charles of Texas, and William of Ohio.⁵

Research Note for George:

As mentioned above, Edward Wheelock and Alberta appear in the 1930 census living in Flint, Michigan. The identity of Alberta is not known.

At least one tree on Ancestry.com shows George Edward Wheelock married to Alberta Hughey, no sources. Alberta Hughey was living in Flint in 1920, age 14. This is promising, since, per census, George (listed as Edward) and Alberta were living in Flint in 1930. Alberta Doris Hughey married Dee St. John 19 Apr 1924, and divorced him on 24 Aug 1924. On 14 Mar 1931 the former Alberta Hughey married Frank Stuart in Detroit. She survived her husband, Frank, who died 7 Apr 1983.⁶

Otherwise, the trees on Ancestry.com show no records for Alberta between 1924 and 1931 - most notably, none of them show a 1930 census record for Alberta. It is possible that Alberta Doris Hughey married George Edward Wheelock between 19 Apr 1924 and when the 1930 census was taken, though no documentary evidence has yet been found to support the case.
