"The Wheelock Family of Calais, VT", by Marcus W. Waite, 1940, adds the following:

"Instructor, 1882-3, MIT, Boston. Lived at Presque Isle, ME, 1888-9; at Salt Lake City, Utah, 1889-1890; at Riverside, CA, from 1890 to date 1941. In 1898 he became head of the History Dept., Riverside High School, and from 1902 to 1928 was Supt. of Schools."

He had been a member of the Riverside County Board of Education continuously from 1899 to 1941. He served as president of the board for three terms.¹

He is enumerated in the 1900 census, living in Riverside, California, born Dec 1853, in Massachsetts, with his wife, Kate, born Feb 1862 in Maine, his daughter Dorothy, born June 1888 in Maine, and remaining children all born in California: Marjory, born Dec 1890, Dudley born Nov 1894, and Charles, born July 1897. He appears in the census records living in Riverside through 1940. His sister, Emily, lived with him from 1920 onward. In 1940, his daughter Margery Dixon, divorced, and granddaughter Sally K. Dixon were also living with him.

The California Vital Records list his mother's maiden name as Davis.
