Father: Abner Wheelock
Mother: Elizabeth Blanchard
Spouse: Reuben Westcott
Marriage: 26 Nov 1812, Windsor, Berkshire Co, MA
- Windsor Vital Records to 1850.
- Cyrus A. Westcott, born 1819, Erie Co, NY
- Laura Fidelia Westcott, born calculated 27 Sep 1822
- Harriet Westcott, born calculated 29 Aug 1825
- Betsey Westcott, born about 1827, Erie Co, NY
Notes:
Betsey and her husband moved to Wales, NY sometime before 1820, when Reuben Westcott is enumerated in the census there. The 1820 census lists two boys and one girl under ten years of age.
They were still living in Wales in 1830. The 1830 census again lists two boys, one between five and ten years, the other between ten and fifteen years. Four girls are listed, one under five, two between five and ten, and one between fifteen and twenty.
Reuben is not found in the 1840 census, but in 1850 he was living in Wales, age 60, born in Mass, married to Sarah Westcott within the last year, age 51, born in Maine, with Betsey Westcott, age 21, born in NY, Francis Knight, age 28, and Mary Knight, age 21, perhaps the latter two being children or relatives of Sarah by a previous marriage.
Betsey was known to be living on 7 Sep 1840, when she and Reuben signed a deed (Erie County deeds, vol 60, pg 440). But she probably died before 1 Oct 1850, when Reuben was enumerated in the census having recently married Sarah.
Her husband's probate records list four children (a man, and three women), but the census records suggest they had at least two male and four female children.

Joseph Wheelock
Birth: about 1705
Death: possibly 30 Apr 1774, Lancaster, Worcester, MA
- Henry S. Nourse, The Birth, Marriage, and Death Register, Church Records and Epitaphs of Lancaster, Massachusetts, 1643-1850 (Clinton, Massachusetts: W. J. Coulter, 1890), p. 326.
Father: Joseph Wheelock
Mother: Elizabeth _____
Spouse: Abigail _____
- Olive Wheelock, born 10 Jan 1726, Lancaster, Worcester, MA
- Oliver Wheelock, born 7 Dec 1727, Lancaster, Worcester, MA
- Joseph Wheelock, born 14 Feb 1729, Leominster, Worcester, MA
- Phinehas Wheelock, born 9 Nov 1731, Lancaster, Worcester, MA
- John Wheelock, born 9 Sep 1733, Lancaster, Worcester, MA

- Prudence Wheelock, born 23 Nov 1737, Leominster, Worcester, MA
- Abel Wheelock, born 29 Jun 1739, Leominster, Worcester, MA
- Elijah Wheelock, born 26 May 1741, Leominster, Worcester, MA
- Elisha Wheelock, born 26 Mar 1743, Leominster, Mass.
- Abigail Wheelock, bapt. 24 Jun 1744
Notes:
"Joseph removed from Lancaster to Leominster about 1725, or the town boundaries of Leominster included his farm at that time, for Leominster was formerly part of Lancaster."1
Joseph Wheelock was a "chainman" in several surveys of land conducted in Ashburnham, MA, prior to its incorporation. He was one of the sixty original proprietors of this town, but never settled there permanently. He was apparently granted the land as payment for the service of his uncle, Timothy Wheelock. The "History of Ashburnham" shows him in the list of original proprietors as follows: "Joseph Wheelock of Lancaster in the Right of his Uncle Timothy Wheelock who served under Captain Anderson."2
Death Date:
There are four death records for men named Joseph Wheelock in the records of the First Church of Lancaster, two of which could plausibly belong to this Joseph: "Mr. Joseph Wheelock" died 30 April 1774, and "Joseph Wheelock" died 16 March 1776.3
The Joseph Wheelock who married Abigail ____ was alive on 27 Nov 1770, when he and his wife sold land to Nathaniel Wyman. Joseph Wheelock normally signed his name, but on this deed he made his mark, suggesting that he might have been ill or feeble.4 For that reason, and the fact that he was older than the other eligible Joseph Wheelocks (i.e. his son and grandson) the earlier death date has been assigned to him. The later death date has been assigned to his son, the Joseph Wheelock who married Alice Page, and was known to have died before 20 Jan 1777 when his uncle John Wheelock wrote his will and called him "deceased." Further evidence is required to completely disambiguate these dates.
There is another death date for Joseph Wheelock "in ye Army" - 1778. This is probably the Joseph Wheelock in Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the Revolutionary War who resided in Lancaster, and died 10 Mar 1778.5 The Joseph Wheelock who married Abigail was unlikely to have served in the army in his advanced age. Consequently this date probably belongs to his grandson.
Note, however, that Rev. Frederick Lewis Weis in "Early Families of Lancaster, Massachusetts", 1941, assigns the 16 Mar 1776 death date to this Joseph, without citing his reasons.

- "Kansas County Marriages, 1855-1911," database with images, FamilySearch.org (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q29Q-9JGS : accessed 9 July 2023), Bettie Heald and W. H. Wheelock, Jr. (1897); FHL 002384270.
Notes:
Per letter from his nephew, Albert Bryan Wheelock, William moved (probably from Marion, Kansas, where his father lived and operated a ranch) to Woodard, Oklahoma, where he also operated a ranch, and later died of typhoid fever.
Research Notes for William H. Wheelock, Jr:
His gravestone states that he was born in 1870.1 His obituary agrees, stating that he was born in Erie County, New York in 1870. But it also states that he was 31 years 11 months and 16 days of age when he died on 23 Oct 1901, which implies a birth date of 7 November 1869.2 A child of his brother, Edward Silas Wheelock, in an undated letter to a distant relative, gave a birth date of 6 Nov 1867.
He was listed as 2 years old in the 1870 census, living in the household of Henry and Carrie Wheelock, Hamburg, Erie County, New York. In the 1875 New York state census, he was listed as 7 years old, living with his parents and siblings in Hamburg. In 1880 he was 12, living in Gypsum, Saline County, Kansas, with his parents, his sister Clara, age 7, and a cousin, William Poole, age 14. These ages are all consistent with the 6 Nov 1867 birth date.
He was not found in the 1900 census.
He is probably the W. H. Wheelock Jr of Gypsum, Saline County, Kansas, who was issued a license to marry Miss Bettie Heald, also of Gypsum, as reported in the 8 May 1897 edition of The Salina Sun.3 The license was issued on 30 Apr 1897. His age on the license was 29 years, which is also consistent with the 6 Nov 1876 marriage date reported by his relative.4 The same age is given on the certificate of marriage, dated 5 May 1897.5
