Research Notes for Sally Converse:

Sally Converse Bixby wrote a letter from Hamilton, New York, to her sister Polly in Charlton, date uncertain but probably May 1815. The letter makes refernces to "Mr. Bixby," Captain Dunbar (who lived 20 miles away), Mary Eliza (probably her first born daughter), Betsey (her sister, apparently deceased), Paul (probably Paul Wheelock), Elliot, Willard, Betsey Gould and Rev. Lamb, Ephraim Wheelock, Martin, Wainey, Uncle John, and Mrs. Babcock. [Src: Sally Converse Bixby (Hamilton, New York) to "Dear Brothers and Sisters"¹

On 3 Apr 1816, Green Bixby of Hamilton, Madison County, New York, and Sally Bixby his wife sold property in Hannibal, Onondaga [now Oswego] County, New York to Nathan Beckwith.²

The Converse genealogy says Sally died in April 1836, but the Bixby genealogy says she died in 1829. The vital records of Madison County, New York, record the death of Green Bixby's wife on 20 April 1836.³ But the record doesn't clarify whether this was his second or third wife. There is an 1830 deed in Genesee County in which John G. Bixby of Le Roy sold property to Jacob McCallum, without a spousal signature.⁴ This might be taken to support a death date for Sally prior to the execution of this deed, supporting the 1829 death date for Sally in the Bixby genealogy. The deed might have belonged to Green Bixby's son, John G. Bixby, who also lived in Genesee County. But he was known to be married at the time, and a spousal signature would be expected.

The issue could be resolved if Green Bixby were found in the 1840 census with a spouse. But his whereabouts in 1840 has not been definitively located.

According to the Bixby genealogy, Sally is buried at Hamilton Center, N.Y.
