A Sarah Thomson died May 1800 in Charlton (per VRs to 1850, from church record). It is possible this is the same Sarah.

Joseph and Sarah presumably moved to Augusta, New York, before 1799 when Joseph appears on a list of taxpayers there.¹ Joseph is enumerated in the 1800 census living in Augusta, with 1 male 10 or under, 1 male 10 to 16, 1 male 16 to 26, and another older than 45 (presumably Joseph himself), three females 10 or under, and 1 female 26 to 45,² who is too young to be Sarah. If it were Sarah, then it means she was born no earlier than 1755, and would have been, at most, about 13 years old when she married Joseph. This is unlikely, and suggests that Sarah was not living in the household, possibly having died by 4 August 1800, the reference date for the 1800 census.

In support of this conclusion is a 17 July 1800 land record witnessed by Moses Thompson in which Joseph Thompson of Augusta sold 5 acres of land in Augusta to John Letson. Sarah did not sign the deed to release her dower rights, suggesting again she may have been deceased.³

These records are consistent with Sarah having died in May 1800. However, the May 1800 death record may have been for their daughter, also named Sarah Thompson - though it seems more likely this was the Sally Thompson of Spencer who married Chapin Kelley 1 Dec 1793 in Spencer. Chapin would have been her cousin.⁴
